PETRONAS Twin Towers, together with the fountain at the Lake Symphony of the KLCC Park glowed in pink in support of Estée Lauder Companies’ Global Landmark Illuminations Initiative to help raise awareness on breast cancer on the evening of 18th October, 2013. Despite the rain, it did not dampen the spirits of all present to witness another exciting illumination which began with the illumination of the Twin Towers, followed by the KLCC Lake Symphony Fountain and a multi-sensorial and immersive digital light show (Projection Mapping) presented on the façade of Suria KLCC.
The digital light show, produced by Crave Index, aimed to unite all present in a deep and emotional journey of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The single Pink Ribbon was followed by a spectacular display of pink lights that shifted shapes between the Pink Ribbons to blooms of our national flower, the hibiscus. All were landmarks of hope marking Estée Lauder Malaysia’s pledge to fight against breast cancer.
The lighting up of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic attractions was a collaboration between Estée Lauder Malaysia and PETRONAS, through its PETRONAS’ Wives and Lady Employees Association (PETRONITA) together with KLCC Holdings Berhad (KLCCH). Katrina Liew, Chairperson of the Estée Lauder Malaysia Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign and also Brand General Manager of Estée Lauder Malaysia said, “Malaysia is proud to be part of the BCA Campaign’s Global Landmark Illumination Initiative each year. Apart from it being a symbol of hope, we also hope that with this initiative, it will bring attention and awareness of breast cancer to all Malaysians. We strongly believe that early detection saves lives.”
“The illumination of PETRONAS Twin Towers and the Lake Symphony signifies PETRONAS’ support towards breast cancer awareness campaign among Malaysians”, said PETRONAS Vice-President of Treasury, Puan Nuraini Ismail. PETRONAS has been a strong supporter of the fight against cancer in Malaysia through its contributions towards Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF). The PETRONAS Twin Towers was illuminated in pink for two nights 18th and 19th October, whilst the fountain was in pink from 18th October till 31st October 2013.
The event was hosted by Bernie Chan and guests were invited to a reception at Chinoz On The Park, prior to the illumination.
Brief History of the Global Landmark Illumination
The Global Landmark Illumination Initiative began in 2000, started by the late Evelyn Lauder who helped spread the life-saving message behind the BCA campaign in a dramatic way. For 12 years, the BCA campaign has illuminated hundreds of famous buildings, monuments, and landmarks around the world. Ablazed in pink lights, these landmarks have become international symbols of hope and continue to empower and enlighten millions of women everywhere. Amongst some of the famous landmarks are Niagara Falls, Sydney Opera House, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Tokyo Tower, Taipei 101 Tower, Tower of London and The Empire State Building.
Since 2007, Estée Lauder Malaysia has illuminated Kuala Lumpur Tower, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Bintang Walk, Pavilion KL, Fahrenheit 88 and the National Science Centre.
