College of Radiology Value Added Mammogram Programme 2013, 2012 Update

Since 2011, an additional 516 and 461 women from 2012 and 2013 CMP respectively participated in the programme. That brings to the total number who have benefitted from the CMP since 2001 to date to 9195. 

Taman Tun Dr Ismail Gospel Centre’s Women Ministry Celebrates 11th Anniversary with a Talk on Breast Cancer, Kuala Lumpur – 2 Nov 2013

The Kuala Lumpur Taman Tun Dr Ismail Gospel Centre’s Women Ministry celebrated their 11th Anniversary in a special function which also featured a talk/sharing session on Breast Cancer: To Screen or Not To Screen” by Dr Evelyn Ho. The celebration was well attended with 52 ladies, some with their children in tow. Delicious high tea was served. The function was in Selangor Club, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

PETRONAS Twin Towers Lights Up in Pink, Kuala Lumpur –  18 Oct 2013

PETRONAS Twin Towers, together with the fountain at the Lake Symphony of the KLCC Park glowed in pink in support of Estée Lauder Companies’ Global Landmark Illuminations Initiative to help raise awareness on breast cancer on the evening of 18th October, 2013. Despite the rain, it did not dampen the spirits of all present to witness another exciting illumination which began with the illumination of the Twin Towers, followed by the KLCC Lake Symphony Fountain and a multi-sensorial and immersive digital light show (Projection Mapping) presented on the façade of Suria KLCC.

IJM Women Employees Benefit from Back-2-Basics Breast Health Awareness Programme –  10 Oct 2013

In conjunction with Pink October Breast Health Awareness Month 2013, IJM Plantations Bhd Group focused on the women staff and guest-workers in the operating units. About 200 attended the talk and demonstration. In the event, estate clinic nurses were immersed in a Train-The-Trainers session in order to cascade the message to the women in their respective operating units. The nurses were encouraged to conduct breast examinations for their patients throughout the month.

Estée Lauder Malaysia’s 2013 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: Hairspray the Musical – Pink Charity Night A Resounding Success, Kuala Lumpur –  22 Sep 2013

Estée Lauder this year collaborated with the award winning musical HAIRSPRAY as their pink charity event for 2013, to raise money for the breast cancer awareness campaign. Their tagline for this year’s campaign was “Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer. We’re STRONGER Together”. Hairspray boasted a 70-strong cast, crew and orchestra to tell the heart-warming story of courage and staying true to oneself; charting the transformation and triumphs of a pleasantly plump social outcast, Tracy Turnblad and her journey to becoming an overnight celebrity via the popular Corny Collins show, featuring a score of infectious 1960s dance music and downtown rhythm and blues. The Musical Pink Charity Night was held in the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Be Frank: Industrial Nurse Initiative Training Programme for Breast Health Awareness, Selangor – 8 Sep 2013

More than 40 participants attended the Initiative Training Programme for Breast Health/Cancer Awareness in Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya. This is part of a new CARIF outreach programme which involves a day of training for industrial nurses, followed by a poster awareness campaign at the factories to be run by the nurses. The outcome of the programme will be measured by uptake of a free mammogram and also increase in breast cancer awareness amongst the nurses.

I LOVE ME Health Conference 2013 in conjunction with National Women’s Day 2013 – 7 Sep 2013

The Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM) organised their annual community health project to raise health awareness through a free public conference – I Love Me Health Conference in Cititel Hotel, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur. This was very well attended and had 2 tracks to cover a greater variety of topics from Menopause, Pregnancy to Grooming/Image Projection and General Health Concerns. A Working Title Events Sdn Bhd (AWT) was the events management company.

PINK ZUMBA in conjunction with Mothers’ Day Celebration in collaboration with Sandakan Breast Health Awareness Committee – 19 May 2013

The IJM Plantations Group continued its engagement with a local NGO, Sandakan Breast Health Awareness Committee (Sandakan Kinabalu Pink Ribbon-SKPR). The Group sponsored a PINK ZUMBA dance-workout session, promoting healthy living through exercise. It was organised in conjunction with this year’s Mothers’ Day celebration as a fund raising activity for SKPR.

Empowering The Gen Y & Z: Breast Health Awareness Grassroots Outreach to SMK Simpangan, Paitan – 23 April 2013

An IJM Plantations Outreach Project for the surrounding community was carried out in another secondary school namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Simpangan in Paitan. About 500 girls attended the awareness talks and participated in breast self-examination. We believe that information and knowledge should be spread amongst the women including those at the grassroots level. This will empower them to spread the message to their families and friends.

College of Radiology receives RM200,000 from the Estée Lauder Companies of Malaysia Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2012, Kuala Lumpur –  8 Jan 2013

At a thank you luncheon held at Sage Restaurant, Gardens, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur, Managing Director of Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) of Malaysia, Paul Slavin presented cheques to four Non-Government Organisations. The funds were raised from the 2012 ELC Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Each of the organisations receive RM200,000. Representing the NGOs at the luncheon were Jessie Fung of the College of Radiology, Claire Ratnasingham of National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Prof Dr Teo Soo Hwang of CARIF, and Assoc Prof Dr Zaharah Ayub of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia.
