Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2012 raises RM 800,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness –  31 Oct 2012

The 2012 Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign raised a total of RM 800,000. The funds will be channelled to beneficiaries – The Breast Cancer Welfare Association, The Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation, The College of Radiology Malaysia and The National Cancer Society of Malaysia. Ramin Karimloo was the star singer enthralling the audience with a rendition of broadway hits. Our own Jaclyn Victor was the guest singer. Congratulations to ELC and all those involved in organising this year’s campaign!

National Science Centre Lights Up in Pink, Kuala Lumpur –  29 Sept 2012

This year, the Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) Malaysia Landmark Illumination is that of the National Science Centre in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The “lighting up” took place at 8pm on Saturday, 29th September 2012 and was witnessed by guests as well as participants of the Pink Ribbon Charity Walk which took place earlier in the evening. The building will stay awashed in pink for the whole month of October. Gracing the occasion was the Deputy Secretary General (Science) Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Yg Bhg Prof Datin Paduka Dr Khatijah Mohd Yusoff.

Kinabalu Pink Ribbon Members’ Retreat: Towards Growing Awareness, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah –  8 to 9 Sep 2012

About 45 ladies, mostly from Kota Kinabalu with a few from Tawau met up in Beringgis Beach Resort, Kota Kinabalu for an “educational” retreat focussed on “Towards Growing Awareness”. Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, the breast cancer support society in Kota Kinabalu organised this event with 4 invited speakers, a breast cancer survivor, a radiologist, an oncologist and a nutritionist.

Making Sense of Your/The Mammogram, A Public Forum @ Sime Darby Specialist Centre Megah, Petaling Jaya – 9 June 2012

About 60 participants attended a public forum that focussed on making sense of the mammogram. This was to address the many misconceptions and myths about the mammograms and to put risks into perspective so that women could make the right decision for themselves with regard screening for breast cancer. To provoke thought and interaction, videos of candid opinions offered by both men and women including paramedical staff as well were shown.

MenCare: Don’t Let Her Stand Alone Launch, Kuala Lumpur  – 30 Mar 2012

“Men’s support of early screening is vital in the fight against breast cancer” continues to underline the National Council of Women’s Organisation and Pfizer Malaysia’s collaboration in a project that began in 2006. The MenCare Coffee Table Book is a milestone in the five years of continuous advocacy by MenCare and was launched with the assistance of MenCare advocates – Henry Golding, Kid Chan, Sharizan Borhan, Chan Fong and Hansen Lee. The advocates took their time to share their support for the cause and highlight the urgency in educating the male community about breast cancer. The advocates also stressed the role of the men and how early detection can save lives.

BCWA Hosts A Chinese New Year Luncheon For Its Members, Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur – 19 Feb 2012

The Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) organised a luncheon for its members at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur on a Sunday, 19 Feb 2012. Ms Ranjit Kaur, Chief Executive Officer of the BCWA as well as Dr Zaharah Aiyub, the President of the BCWA started off the luncheon with short speeches. It was an opportunity for the BCWA members to catch up with each other, and have some fun whilst feasting on a good lunch. The constant hum of chatter was obvious and it was difficult to get the attendees to stay silent even for a short while for the necessary speeches.
